On behalf of the American Society of Safety Professionals National Capital Chapter (ASSP NCC), I was honored to be chosen as a judge for the First Annual NAWIC DC Block Competition.
On a brisk, yet sunny Saturday morning children entered Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland, eager and excited for a chance to compete against their peers. This award-winning program introduces students to the construction industry in an effort to create awareness and promote careers in the industry.
Although the competition required no more than the use of 75 building blocks, rocks, string, and paper, the only limit on the competitors was their imagination. At the end of the competition, parents took pictures and stood proudly next to their child’s creation, basking in their delight. I am so glad I was able to be a part of this event and cannot wait to participate next year.
